Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists dispense prescription medication to customers or health professionals. This self-paced online program prepares students to be professional Pharmacy Technicians dedicated to assisting in quality pharmacy operational procedures. Once students pass the 16-week, 192 hour online course, they are eligible to sit for the National board exam with Pharmacy Technician Certification Board ( PTCB ).
*Please note, our program meets NC standards for Pharmacy Tech. If you reside out of state, please check with the Board of Pharmacy in your state to make sure the program meets their requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

Computer Skills; This course is 100% online via Blackboard. Students should have good computer skills in order to maneuver through the program.

National Board exam through PTCB : $129
Students must apply for the exam within 60 days of completing the course. Exam is not covered by scholarship funds.

Understand the practice of pharmacy
Identify and understand the regulatory agencies and laws that affect the practice of pharmacy
Recognize and process drug orders in both retail and institutional environments
Describe the process for bringing new drugs to market through the NDA process
Describe the naming of drug products and the patent process
Understand the use of the patient profile and hospital charts in drug use and patient monitoring
Order, maintain, and control pharmacy inventory including the disposition of expired or recalled medications
Identify and understand the differences required in handling controlled substances and their drug orders
Demonstrate proficiency in pharmacy calculations involved in the practice of pharmacy (math skills)
Demonstrate sterile product compounding and aseptic techniques
Discuss pharmacology and the concept of pharmacological classes of medications
Discuss pharmacokinetics and factors that can affect drug kinetics
Demonstrate ability to engage in the administrative duties of the pharmacy
Identify and understand the ways pharmacy technicians support the pharmacist in the performance of their duties
Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Exam or the National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT) exam.
